Four categories. Four very different reasons to pause and reflect on just how far we’ve come.

Out of the Woods began with a simple belief: children and young people deserve access to therapeutic support when they need it — not simply when a system has space for them.

What started small has grown into a community of therapists supporting young people across Cornwall through play, creativity, art and nature. We’ve built something that is child-led, trauma-informed and rooted in relationships — creating spaces where young people can feel not judged, not rushed, but witnessed.

And behind all of this are the people.

The therapists who show up every week and hold space for young people.
The families who trust us.
The schools and professionals who work alongside us.
Our directors and supporters who help keep the wheels turning.
And the young people themselves, who remind us every day why this work matters.

The Phoenix Award feels particularly meaningful because, like so many small organisations, our journey hasn't always been straightforward. There have been challenges, uncertainty, exhaustion and plenty of moments of “How on earth are we going to make this work?”

But we keep rising, adapting and finding new ways forward.

Being recognised across these four categories isn't just a reflection of one person or one organisation. It reflects a whole community of people who believe that every young person deserves the opportunity to find their light again.

We are incredibly grateful to whoever took the time to nominate us, to the people who continue to believe in what we do, and to every person who has helped Out of the Woods become what it is today.

Whatever happens next, being a 2026 West Country Women’s Awards semi-finalist in four categories is something we will absolutely take a moment to celebrate. 💛
